Many cocktail recipes call for full-flavored dark rum. They are usually dark brown or reddish-brown in color. These rich flavorful rums are frequently matured in barrels longer than gold rums. They may contain extra dark coloring. Navy rums are often a blend of rich dark rums, traditionally from English colonies such as Guyana, Trinidad, Jamaica, Bermuda and Barbados.

Owney's Original USA-New York City Rum
- Named for prohibition rum runner Owen(y) Madden, this craft white rum made by Bridget Firtle at Noble Experiment in Brooklyn, remains true to the cane with vegetal aromas of grass and a light touch of lemon-pepper. The palate begins with lemongrass, leading to a slightly bitter bright white pepper that balances the natural sweetness before a bit of mid-palate heat. Persistent warmth and pepper on the clean finish. Respectfully wild but not hot. Makes a fine dry daiquiri.
